”Wysokie loty” poster.

Movie (1978)
English title: Flying high

Starring:
Jerzy Aleksander Braszka (Wojciech Średniawa, POP secretary)
Tomasz Borkowy (Janusz Średniawa)
Jerzy Złotnicki (Kazimierz Matusiak, chief of Tokar)
Andrzej Gazdeczka (KW secretary)
Andrzej Kozak (keeper in aeroclub)

W. Średniawa – party organization secretary, doesn’t trust the new chief of the big state company, where he works. Workers complain, that the new boss uses his position to make own, private deals. Średniawa is trying to intervene at the “top", but without any positive results - the new director has strong support of the central administration.
At the same time Średniawa's son resign from a job of engineer and decides to build new light aircraft, according to own project and in own flat. When prototype is ready (in this role J-1), he tries to interest the state industry wih it, unfortunately he meets there a real “bureaucratic concrete wall” and, despite many positive advantages of the new construction, industry officials even do not want to talk with him nor agree for the tests.

Jankowski J-1A Don Quichote

Same like the film character, Jarosław Jankowski also built in 1970 his first plane (“J-1 Prząśniczka”) in own flat and then took it outside in pieces through the window. In film we can see later, modified to meet US regulations, version renamed “J-1A Don Quichote”. The plane (not visible in film reg. number SP-0002) crashed and was destroyed in 1981.
