At the time of its production, the industry was far from achieving its objectives in terms of automobile production, and the film seeks to explain this crisis. The film begins with a look at the wartime contribution of the American automobile industry, then examines the intermittent transition to civilian vehicle manufacturing. The film includes footage of industry and factory executives from various companies, including Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Hudson, Studebaker, Willys-Overland and Packard.
