The Consolidated PB2Y Coronado was a fou engine flying boat patrol bomber designed by Consolidated Aircraft. The two inner engines were fitted with four-bladed reversible pitch propellers; the outer engines had standard three-bladed feathering props. The first prototype with a single tail experienced stability problems so the design evolved into the PB2Y-2, with a large cantilever wing and a twin tail with very marked dihedral. Ten of them were purchased by the Royal Air Force Coastal Command but failed in the anti-submarine role due to their limited range. Eventually, they have flew transatlantic cargo flights. The United States Navy too hoped to use the Coronado as a maritime patrol and ASW aircraft and even tried to use it as a bomber but eventually converted as unarmed transports, some fitted for medical evacuation role.
All of the survivors were scrapped during summer of 1946 but one (BuNo 7099) now preserved at National Naval Aviation Museum, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Pensacola, Florida.
217 Consolidated PB2Y Coronado were built.
