The Martin B-10 began a revolution in bomber design. Its all-metal monoplane airframe, along with its features of closed cockpits, rotating gun turrets, retractable landing gear, internal bomb bay, and full engine cowlings, all together in the same design would become the standard for bomber designs worldwide for decades. It made all existing bombers completely obsolete, being superior to performances of the Army's pursuit aircraft of the time. Its first flight occured on 16 February 1932 and the Army put it in service at the end of 1934. It met success on export market as half of the production was for customers like the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force (for example).
348 airframes were built.
