Northwest Orient Airlines was the brand name taken by Northwest Airlines in 1949, although its registered corporate name remained Northwest Airlines. This new name corresponded to an increasing part of activity in transpacific flights. It continuously upgraded equipment with Boeing 377 Stratocruiser in 1949, Douglas DC-6B in 1954 and Douglas DC-8 jetliner in 1960. The airline purchased several Boeing 720B airliners in 1961, and in 1963 several new Boeing 707-320B. For a time it adopted the slogan "Northwest Orient: The Fan-Jet Airline". Northwest Orient bought its first Boeing 747 airliners in 1970 and soon began retiring its older and smaller Boeing 707s. Besides its transpacific flights, Northwest Orient Airlines operated its first turboprop jet aircraft, the Lockheed L-188 Electra and started flying the three-engine Boeing 727 jet airliner in November 1964, when its first short fuselage series 51 was delivered. Many examples of the stretched series 251 followed. On October 1, 1986, Northwest Orient merged with Republic Airlines, and dropped the word Orient from its brand name, renamed again as Norhwest Airlines.

This page lists all films, TV series, and video games that feature aircraft of Northwest Orient Airlines.
