The SNCASO SO.6020 was the first prototype of a French post-war interceptor which later evolved into the SO.6021, SO.6025 and SO.6026 all being underpowered. Commonly named Sud-Ouest Espadon (swordfish), the design team was led by Lucien Servanty from 1946. The maiden flight of this the mid-wing monoplane was on 12 November 1948. Powered by a Nene turbojet engine, it suffered several foreign object damage due to the ventral air intake put just behind the front landing gear. Moreover this proved to be very inefficient and the aircraft failed to meet nearly all of the specifications. Several design moved the air intake on the sides, improved structure to reduce weight by 600 kg and adding more powerplant (a SEPR 25 rocket engine or two small wingtip-mounted turbojets).
The three prototypes (6020-01 -02 and -03) were modified several times given the types 6021, 6025 and 6026. All these works spent months and years so the French Air Force eventually bought Dassault Ouragan and the prototypes were used to test the Mach limit or to support the SO.9000 Trident program. The last flight was in 1955 just one year after the type broke (unofficially) the sound barrier.

Of the three airframes built, only the SO.6025 survives, derelic after several years spent as a targed on a fire range.
