From the early 1930s to around 1970, the British aircraft company Slingsby Aviation built more half of all British club gliders and had success at national and international level competitions. During the 1960's production included some powered aircraft mainly scaled down replicas of World War One fighters, then from 1974, the composite built Firefly trainer. Nwadays the society is mainly a producer of specialised composite materials and components.
