In 1984, the USSR's best submarine captain in their newest sub violates orders and heads for the USA. Is he trying to defect, or to start a war?
Jack Ryan uses this to get from the carrier USS Enterprise to the submarine USS Dallas.
Jack Ryan lands on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in this.
This sends a torpedo after the Red October.
A loosely model mainly by the landing gear housing pointing downwards.
One of these also crash lands on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65)'s flight deck.
However, the footage of the airplane crash is really that of a 1951 Grumman F9F mishap aboard the USS Midway (CV-41). Commander George Chamberlain Duncan attempted a landing but hit the deck's edge on 23rd June 1951. The pilot suffered only burns.
Action is seen from the command post through a TV screen : first a F-14 ; then we heard "Eject ! Eject!" in background phones and see stupendous faces of officiers; eventually the F9F Panther with its wingtip tank.
Same aircraft (BuNo 125228 Grumman F9F-5 Panther) in other movies at IMPDb: Frequently Seen Aircraft.
When the US Navy picks up the Red October's crew, this drops a torpedo into the water, which is detonated before it can hit the Red October (as part of the charade allowing Ramius to secretly defect with the submarine)
