The Jewel of the Nile

Welcome to IMPDb!
Dedicated to identifying aircraft throughout Movies, Television, and Video Games!

Dear Friends:

As many of you have noticed, The Internet Movie Plan Database ( has recently had a hard time keeping up with the growing demands of our users. In 2009 when a couple of us got together to begin putting the website together, space was never an issue. In fact, it has steadily grown with virtually no problems throughout the years.

In about the middle of 2016 we began to run into server space issues. We have since made upgrades (moving to a VPS, buying more space, etc), but the site continues to outgrow the upgrades. The meager ad revenue generated by the site isn't sufficient to cover the annual cost of running the server. We who manage the site have never made money from it, it has only ever earned enough money to cover actual server costs.

In an effort to continue serving the needs of aviation enthusiasts around the world, we are asking for donations to keep this site up and running consistently like it did when it was a smaller, newer site. If you've enjoyed this website and would like to see it continue being the site you go to for your aviation screenshot needs, please consider donating.

Oh yeah, new users and edits are now active (hopefully for good) while we're testing new and improved spam/bot protections :)
Thank you,
IMPDb Staff

Movie (1985)

Michael Douglas (Jack Colton)
Kathleen Turner (Joan Wilder)
Danny DeVito (Ralph)
Spiros Focás (Omar)
Avner Eisenberg (Jewel)
Paul David Magid (Tarak)

Joan Wilder is hired by Middle Eastern dictator Omar to write a sanitized version of his biography. He holds her prisoner in his fortress until she complies, with Jack Colton attempting to rescue her. It turns out Omar has stolen the sacred jewel of the local tribal peoples. Jack plans to steal back this jewel but in reality the "Jewel" is actually the tribes' holy man whom Omar is keeping captive alongside Joan.

Aérospatiale AS355 F1 Ecureuil 2

Omar flies Joan to his city in this helicopter. Whilst escaping later, Jack shoots it with the jet's machine guns and blows it up.
Registration CN-AIX, c/n 5245.

Fokker F27-600 Friendship

Fokker F27-600 Friendship of Royal Air Inter.

General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon (Mockup)

Omar keeps a single fighter jet at his airfield. When Jack, Joan and the Jewel are escaping they use the jet. Since Jack cannot fly, however, they drive out of the city in it, instead. For scenes of the jet driving out in the desert, it has a modified undercarriage and landing gear. Same aircraft in other works at IMPDb: Frequently Seen Aircraft (Military Fixed-Wing).

Note modified landing gear.
