Actually, they use both the two-seat F-5F and the single-seat F-5E in that film. I think you can also see another F-5E in US Navy Aggressor colors during the briefing in the hangar where Goose flips Kelly McGillis' character the bird. I have a scale model of and F-5E made to look like a MiG-28 from that film. I used to watch it constantly as a kid.
