The AVIA (Azionaria Vercellese Industrie Aeronautiche) FL.3 was an Italian two-seat side-by-side cabin monoplane designed by a team led by Francis Lombardi. The maiden flight occurred in November 1938. Civil airframes had an enclosed cockpit but military airframes only had a windshield. Production began soon after the maiden flight but was stopped when World War II began. It resumed after VE Day and the aircraft was sold as the Lombardi FL.3 until 1953. That year, Meteor SpA acquired the rights for the FL.3 and with some re-design produced it as the Meteor FL.53. A three-seat version known as FL.54 and the four-seat version (FL.55) were later developed.
