After his degradation, L.A.P.D.-Officer Jim Street (Colin Farrell) has only an office job. He takes his second chance when Sergeant Hondo Harrelson (Samuel L. Jackson) search for five officer to build up a new police unit, the Speacial Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.). After the strong training, the team gets his first challenge. The imprisoned drug kingpin Alexander Montel (Olivier Martinez) offers a huge cash to anyone that can free him from the police and only the S.W.A.T.-team can prevent this.
