A team of US Army paratroopers is flown into Nazi-held Italy to sabotage an important dam. However, upon landing, the group is waylaid and killed by German soldiers. Only one American, Captain Turner, survives. He is found and nursed back to health by a group of Italian children led by a boy named Aldo - themselves the sole survivors of a village massacred by the SS. In return for helping him destroy the dam, Turner agrees to help the children get revenge on the SS for their parents' murder.
