Squadron 992 title card.

Documentary (1940)
French title : Escadrille 992

Starring:
Lionel Gamlin (Speaker)

Squadron 992 describes the training and operations in 1939/1940 of a Royal Air Force (RAF) barrage balloon unit and how it had quickly ran to the North following the Luftwaffe attack on Scotland Navy bases during October 1939.

Barrage balloon

Barrage balloon of RAF Squadron 992.

Heinkel He 111H

Fairey Battle

Quickly, the Heinkell is acted by British types. First, just this shot of a Fairey Battle.

Bristol 142 Blenheim Mk.I

But most of the time, it's a Bristol 142 Blenheim Mk.I.

Avro Anson

Close ups are most of the time from other types. The cockpit view is set inside an Avro Anson.

Handley Page HP.52 Hampden

Bomb bay : the Heinkel He 111 got two, side by side with bombs loaden vertically (look at Wielka Droga). This single one with bombs horizontally is from a british bomber but not a Blenheim which got two. Probably an Handley Page HP.52 Hampden.

Unidentified Aircraft

A British type with open cockpit. Not Fairey Swordfish. Hawker Hart ?

Supermarine Spitfire Mk II

Defending fighters are these Spitfires seen at takeoff.
WZ is the squadron code for No. 19 Squadron RAF between October 1938 and September 1939. Actually, the fighting saw Spitfires of No. 603 Squadron RAF (code XT)... and occured in October 1939.

Again once the victory is full.

Hawker Hurricane

During the dogfight, the Spitfire becomes a Hurricane.
