Arkia Israeli Airlines was founded in 1949 as Eilat Airlines with the help of El Al. Its name has changed into Aviron and Israel Inland Airlines later. Arkia is second largest airline in Israel and operates scheduled domestic and international services as well as charter flights. Airline commenced operations in 1950 on domestic Tel Aviv - Eilat route. In 1967 Arkia expanded network into Jerusalem, Sharm-el-Sheikh and Santa Caterina. Kanaf Arkia Airlines is established as its subsidiary. In 2006, airline started to serve USA and Far East destinations. Since 2007, Arkia operates some scheduled passenger service previously handled by Israel's national airline El Al. Larnaca, Dublin, Paris (CDG), Copenhagen, Berlin (SXF), Barcelona, Rome, Warsaw, Munich, Amsterdam, Tashkent and Tbilisi are served on its scheduled network. Numerous charters to southern Turkey, Italy and Greece are also carried out.
