Gray Goose seen in Fröhliche Zukunft! — Wünsche, Wunder und Visionen.

The idea behind this astonishing contraption appeared in the mind of Jonathan E. Caldwell as early as 1923. Full of other ideas too, he stablished Gray Goose Airplane in 1928, a company which produced many bizarre and thoroughly impractical aircraft. By 1937, Caldwell’s take of the “Cyclogyro” turned into this hopeful bare minimum VTOL aircraft designed by Fred Landgraf which employed an egg-shaped fuselage powered by a 7hp Harley-Davidson motor engine. The latter activated two sets of flapping wings mounted on a substantial triangular-box structure. Information is sketchy, but it seems something broke before any real flight trial was attempted.

This manufacturer built at least two types of experimental airplanes: Cyglogyro and Windmill Plane.
