The HAL Dhruv is an indigenous mid-size helicopter designed and developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Relying on a collaboration with MBB for the airframe and envisaging an Allied Signal engine, the prototype flew in 1992, but following US sanctions in 1998, Turbomeca powered the production machines. From 2001, 56 Mark I have been built for the Indian Air Force and 20 mark II (with a glass cockpit) for the Indian Navy. Civil variants are available with skids or wheels landing gear. Next variant (Mk III & Mk IV) have a more powerful engine, the Shakti-1H co-developped with Turbomeca. So the performance in high altitude are better and the cabin can carry up to 14 passengers (versus only 12 before). After twenty years, more 400 airframes have left the assembly line.
The Rudra's development started in 2007 and was introduced in 2012. It's an armed version with two variants : the mark III has Electronic Warfare, countermeasures, sensors and targeting systems; the mark IV is fitted with a chin turret and is able to carry rocket pods and air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles on four points. To date, more 150 Rudras are in service or on orders.
This page contains all films, TV series, and video games that feature a variation of the HAL Dhruv and Rudra.
