The Heinkel HD 55 was a biplane flying boat of the Soviet Naval Aviation which named it KR-1. Designed and manufactured by Heinkel on Soviet request, the type first flew in 1929 and soldiered on during a dozen years as its intended replacement lasted to enter service. Problems and dificulties plagued throughout its career but the initial order of 15 was later increased to around 40 aircrafts. The Soviet Naval Aviation was the only operator.
