The Lockheed XF-90 was the Lockheed's proposal to a 1945 Army request for an advanced jet fighter tasked to long-range penetration fighter and bomber escort. This design was based on a single-seat, low-wing swept-wing fighter powered by two Westinghouse J34 turbojet engines, which were unsufficient to powered correctly the massive airframe fitted with six 20 mm cannon and the large amount of fuel needed to cover a range of 2,300 mi (3,680 km, 2,000 nmi) (these figures were three times higher than those for the two-seat Lockheed F-94, which was in flight one month later). Its first prototype's maden flight was on 3 June 1949 and the second one (XF-90A), despite its afterburners, failed to gain production contract in September 1950. The first prototype was used for structural tests which led to its destruction in 1953. The other one survived three atomic blasts (but in a poor state) so in 2003, the heavily damaged hulk was recovered and after decontamination, was put on display in the museum's Cold War gallery at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, near Dayton, Ohio, USA.
This page lists all films that feature the Lockheed XF-90 (one of the two prototypes or a model / set / anime).
