The Mitsubishi F-1 was a Japanese single-seat development of the indigenous trainer, the supersonic Mitsubishi T-2. The rear seat was removed and an aviation bay put in the free space to fullfil the close air support, ground-attack and anti-ship tasks. An internally mounted 20 mm cannon and a stretched fuselage were the other main differences in order to carry a larger weapons load. The powerplant was still of two Ishikawa-Harima TF40-801A afterburning turbofans. The maiden flight occured in 1975. Introduction tto active duty was in 1978 and eventually the F-1 was replaced by the Mitsubishi F-2 (Japan/U.S. scale-up F-16) when the last examples reached the end of their 4,000 hour limit of their airframes in 2006.
77 Mitsubishi F-1 were built between 1975 and 1987.
This page lists all films that feature a variation of the Mitsubishi F-1.
