Avro Manchester Mk IA.

The Avro Manchester type 679 was a British twin-engine heavy bomber developed jst before the Second World War, making its first flight on 25 July 1939. Due to lack of directional stability, it had a third fin added to the twenty first airframes but later ones had enlarged tailplane and taller fins and rudders. Its main weakness was its underpower formula and unreliable engines. A major redesign led to the famous Avro Lancaster. Commissioned in November 1940, the Manchester saw action between end of February 1941 and mid-1942 before being retired even of training task in 1943.
Please, do not confuse with the First World War biplane, the Avro 533 Manchester !
