Bücker Bü 181 "Bestmann" seen in The Great Escape.

The Bücker Bü 181 "Bestmann" was is a two-seater, single-engine trainer aircraft which was used by the Luftwaffe during World War II. Production licenses were granted to Sweden (120 airframes built), Fokker Company in the Netherlands (more a thousand airframes built), and in Czechoslovakia under german occupation. This last production line was restart after the war by Zlin which produced three variants. This last company sold itself a licence in Egypt for 300 airframes named Gomhouria.

Between 3400 and 4000 Bestmann and variants have been built between 1939 until the 1950's.
