The Harrier 'Jump Jet' is the only successful ground attack, close support and reconnaissance Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft. Originally designed and manufactured by Hawker Siddeley, it has been developed into the Harrier II manufactures by BAe (now BAE Stystems) and McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing).
