The Macchi C.202 Folgore made its first flight on 10 August 1940. Designed as a development of the earlier Macchi M.C.200, an Alfa Romeo RA.1000 R.C.41-I engine (a license built Daimler-Benz DB 601Aa) replaced the radial of its predecessor. With some refinments on the fuselage, this gave one of the finest italian fighter of the WW2, the single one of those to reach mass production. Used on all front until may 1945 (and even some years later, this time as advanced trainer).
Around 1 200 Macchi C.202 Folgore were built.
