The SIAI Marchetti S.205 was drawned in 1964 and flew for the first time in 1965. Airframes could be powered by three different engines, the customer have had the choice between a fixed or a retractable landing gear. A more powerfull five-seat variant, the S.208 was designed and put on the production line. 45 of them were acquired by the Italian Air Force as S.208M.
More six hundred of this four seated airframes have been built in fifteen years in addition to the 120 S.208.
