The Vought-Sikorsky VS-300 is an experimental helicopter designed by Igor Sikorsky actually acting as Engineering Manager of the Vought-Sikorsky Division of United Aircraft Corporation. Started in 1938, the prototype was first airborned on 14 September 1939 and tested in flight until 1943, with several configuration to improve stability and handling. The type beat the world endurance record, became a two-seat capable or the first helicopter able to carry a cargo. The successfull project led to the first American operational helicopter the Sikorsky R-4.
