Westland Wessex used in Full Metal Jacket portraying an H-34 Choctaw

The Westland Wessex is a licensed-built variation of the Sikorsky H-34 Choctaw, built by Westland Helicopters for the the British Armed Forces. But a major change was about the engine : instead the piston powerplant, the Wessex relied on a gas turbine : a single Napier Gazelle engine for the first airframes, later builds used a pair of Rolls-Royce Gnome engines. The nose's shape was different of the H-34 and one (or two) noticeable exhaust were visible on the airframe's side.

382 Wessew were built between 1958 and 1970.

This page lists all films that feature a variation of the Westland Wessex.
