How can I add Fokker F-28 in Aircraft list? Category= Fokker F-28 is already created and operating. Sixcyl

See IMPDb:Create a Category for full details. Please make sure you read the guidelines on when they should be created. Also, what do you mean by it is 'already created and operating'? Bthebest 20:46, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Done, but still not appearing in Aircraft list, I don't see why Sixcyl

Once the Category page has some content (see discussion for that page), it will appear on the aircraft list due to the code [[Category:Aircraft List]]. Until there is some user defined content, the page does not 'officially' exist.Bthebest 17:45, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Word "Category" now appearing

Maybe there is a good reason, and it's just a question, but is it necessary to have this "category" word before each aircraft name in this list? Sixcyl

Ideally they wouldn't be there and they didn't use to be but some modifications were made to the Wiki and the format changed. Had a brief look but couldn't work out how to change it. Will enquire more. Bthebest 15:19, 9 January 2011 (MST)
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We are looking into this now and will have more info asap. Jeremy 18:29, 9 January 2011 (MST)
Geez, I am glad they're not all listed under "C" for Category! Tobin Lee 03:00, 11 January 2011 (MST)

We are aware of all these ones that need creating, there is already a list here. It just takes time to create all the pages, but they will be done at some point. I do check every page to see if a category is required and be assured if it is, then the link will remain. You are welcome to create the categories yourself, however to keep the site unified it must keep within the guidelines set out in the help page, IMPDb:Create a Category. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 16:45, 6 February 2011 (MST)

I was aware of this "wanted category" list, but since most of new aircraft category coming up are systematically "darkened" with no links, how do you manage to memorize them? Personnally I fill an exel file to remember all the new aircraft I point in the films I post. Otherwise we actually miss many of them? See for instance case of the first in my list = Bristol 170 Freighter, which is not in this "wanted catégory" ...Sixcyl 15:12, 7 February 2011 (MST)

Consolidated PBY Catalina

Why this aircraft category doesn't appear in the category list? How can we add it , as it's already active in the movie pages? Sixcyl 01:17, 14 February 2011 (MST)

Found it! simple... "category aircraft list" link was missing. Sixcyl 01:33, 14 February 2011 (MST)

Alphabetic order in category list

Does any one know why Aérospatiale MBB C-160 Transall went in back of "A" list? strange ! Sixcyl 12:53, 17 March 2011 (MDT)

It would be nice to make comments when you changes the designation I give ! Sixcyl 16:57, 17 March 2011 (MDT)

Due to the wonderful number of recent contributions, I have been quite busy moderating pages. Forgive me if I forget to completely tie up all loose ends. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 17:47, 17 March 2011 (MDT)

Aérospatiale SA 321 Super Frelon

This new category goes down the list of " A" instead of the top in Aérospatiale order list! any comments? Sixcyl 15:06, 14 June 2011 (MDT)

Fixed. It's because foreign letters are sorted after english letters. As such a DEFAULTSORT command must be used with "Ae". Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 16:04, 14 June 2011 (MDT)

Thanks for the info Tim! Sixcyl 23:55, 14 June 2011 (MDT)

Aérospatiale List

There is still an unlogical order in this Aérospatiale aircraft list. Proper order should be:
Category:Aérospatiale SA 313/315 Alouette II
Category:Aérospatiale SA 316/319 Alouette III
Category:Aérospatiale SA 321 Super Frelon
Category:Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma
Category:Aérospatiale SA 341 Gazelle
Category:Aérospatiale SA 360 Dauphin
Category:Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde
Can you do somehing Tim? Sixcyl 10:47, 15 June 2011 (MDT)

Sorted. Good spot and thanks for pointing it out. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 11:31, 15 June 2011 (MDT)

SNCASE SE.2010 Armagnac

Still can't fix this category in order to sort it at the right place in the "S" list.Sixcyl 00:48, 21 February 2013 (MST)

Same problem with SE.161 Languedoc and SNCASO SO.6000 Triton.Sixcyl 13:42, 21 February 2013 (MST)

SNCASO SO.1221 Djinn & SNCASO

Same problem with this new category : why does it be in the first place instead just before the SNCASO SO.6000 Triton ?
SNCASO encounters the same problem, being in the first place within the S letter (please, note that I first wrote a SNCAS0 (zero) page which should be deleted).
Thanks to fix them. LVCDC 13 avril 2013

WSK-Okęcie PZL 101 Gawron

I can't fix the right alphabetic order in the W list, though use of same syntax DEFAULTSORT that works for others ATR 42, ATR 72, SNCASE... I don't understand... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sixcyl 13:53, 29 April 2013 (MDT)

Hyphen in aircraft manufacturer

I've engaged a wide change on all pages of aircraft manufacturer needing hyphens, in order to recover a clean list of aircraft with no mixture between types of aircraft and types of manufacturers, when new names results from merge between two different manufacturers. For instance:
Before this change, list of Fairchild aircraft appeared as:
Fairchild C-82 Packet
Fairchild Hiller FH-1100
Fairchild PT-19
Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderboldt II
Since the move of Fairchild Hiller to Fairchild-Hiller, the order of the list is more correct with non split alphabetic order on the Fairchild aircraft:
Fairchild C-82 Packet
Fairchild PT-19
Fairchild-Hiller FH-1100
Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderboldt II
Therefore all the following aircraft list are concerned too:

Boeing Vertol ==> Boeing-Vertol (done)
Fairchild Republic(done)
Fairchild Swearingen (done)
Grumman American (done)
North American Rockwell (done)
Hawker Siddeley (done)
Lockheed Martin (done)
McDonnell Douglas
Northrop Grumman

I don't think it's necessary to put a redirection advise on the previous page (with no hyphen) because it pollutes the new aircraft page with a useless SUB CATEGORY. So I prefer to blank them definitively. With use, every body will go easily into this. Sixcyl 12:56, 15 December 2013 (MST)

I can't agree with all these changes as it creates a larger error in the name of aircraft. The following cannot be hyphenated because it is factually incorrect, however the list order can be modified:
Boeing Vertol
Fairchild Hiller
Grumman American
Hawker Siddeley
Lockheed Martin
McDonnell Douglas
Northrop Grumman
These are the manufacturers as listed on FAA registrations.
The others (Fairchild Republic, Fairchild Swearingen and North American Rockwell) is a point for debate, as the first part of the name reflects a takeover by that company - with only the second part listed as the official manufacturer. These could be hyphenated, however in common usage they are not. I have not reverted these at this stage.
Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 09:55, 29 December 2013 (MST)

OK I should have discuss that point before making this change. But it's a pity that "default sort" syntax wasn't used before in order to give a proper alphabetic order between aircraft from those problematic categories. I'm not used with this wiki language, and I wouldn't have engaged such a work! Sixcyl 10:51, 29 December 2013 (MST)

I think the lesson to learn from this is, before making a major change to how something is done - especially one which requires a lot of time and effort - start a discussion with others, including an admin. We have had a similar issue before with the Movie List, which was solved in the same way.
Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 15:48, 29 December 2013 (MST)
Are you happy for the others to be non-hyphenated as well or would you prefer a larger discussion? My argument is that they are not hyphenated in common usage and we can sort them using this other method. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 05:54, 1 January 2014 (MST)
