Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII

One of two flyable Spitfires used in filming, this restored example portrays an early war Mk I.

The pointed tail identifies this aircraft compared to the others.

In addition to the two flyable Spifires, the film also includes several static models used as ground props, special effects models (physical and CGI) and much digitally retouched footage from the 1969 film Battle of Britain.

This may be one of several static models used in filming.

Platzer Kiebitz

Prewar scenes of flight training were filmed using a Platzer Kiebitz. The Kiebitz is an ultralight biplane built from plans created by German designer Michael Platzer.

Bücker Bü 131 Jungmann

A number of Bücker Bü 131 "Jungmann" trainers appear as ground props during the opening of the film.

Bü 131s were built under license by various Czechoslovakian companies before, during, and after the war.

CASA 2.111

Heinkel He111s in the film were depicted by special effects models and digitally retouched footage from the 1969 film Battle of Britain.

BOB footage - these post war CASA 2.111s were powered by Rolls Royce Merlin engines and can be identified by the large radiator inlet below the propeller.

Bf 109s in the film were depicted by special effects models and digitally retouched footage from the 1969 film Battle of Britain.

North American B-25 Mitchell

A B-25 plays the role of a damaged RAF bomber being escorted home after a raid.

The B-25 was depicted by a scale special effects model, with added digital effects for the smoke and crew members.

Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress

A flight of B-17s makes an appearance as the war effort increases towards the end of the film.

The B-17 footage was digitally retouched from the 1990 film Memphis Belle.
