Painting
Near the admiral's office, this 2011 painting (artwork -sold out!- by Stan Stokes) shows some of the most emblematic aircraft of a century of American naval aviation.
Of the 56 past and present aircraft carriers of the US Navy, those six symbolise nearly 90 years of ship borne airbase :
- N1 : CV-1 USS Langley
- N2 : Yorktown class
- N3 : CV-9 USS Essex
- N4 : CV-41 USS Midway (after the 1955 Ship Characteristics Board modernization)
- N5 : CV-59 USS Forrestal
- N6 : CVN-68 USS Nimitz
The 52 aircrafts of the flypast are directly identified on the painting; only these twelve ones are captioned here due to small avaiable space to write and ... some questionable identification :
- A1 : ?
- A2 : Curtiss BF2C Goshawk
- A3 : Grumman F3F-2
- A4 : Vought SB2U-2 Vindicator
- A5 : Boeing F4B-4
- A6 : Curtiss F6C-2 Model 34D
- A7 : Curtiss BFC-2 Hawk
- A8 : Martin T4M-1 (or licenced-built Great Lakes TG-2)
- A9 : Curtiss F8C-5 Helldiver (later designated O2C-1)
- A10 : ?
- A11 : ?
- A12 : Curtiss F6C-3 Model 34D
