From a Douglas DC4 flight with 4 stopovers in 1953 to a direct Boeing 777 flight equipped with new cabins in 2023, AirFrance is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Paris - Johannesburg line! The story is rooted in that of the UAT and TAI companies grouped into UTA which was integrated into Air France.

Registration F-BGSK, c/n 44063/403. Delivered new to Canadian Pacific Air Lines in September 1953, registered CF-CUS. Sold to Aigle Azur as F-BGSK in June 1954, then to UAT-Union Aéromaritime de Transport. Leased to Olympic Airways in 1957. Returned to UAT-Union Aéromaritime de Transport in 1958. Transferred to UTA-Union de Transports Aériens after merge in October 1963. Leased to Air Afrique in November 1963, registered TU-TCI. Returned to UTA-Union de Transports Aériens as F-BGSK in November 1965. Leased again to Air Afrique in February 1966, re-registered TU-TXH. Back again to UTA-Union de Transports Aériens in April 1966. Bought by Armée de l'Air as F-YEFA, then Aéronavale in March 1974, registered 44063. Scrapped at Paris-Le Bourget in May 1984.

Sold to Iran Air in November 1965, registered EP-AEX. Sold to Bird & Sons Inc. Oakland CA in December 1974, registered N56CA. Broken up in May 1981.

Registration F-BJLB, c/n 45568/83. Delivered new to UAT-Union Aéromaritime de Transport in August 1960. Transferred to UTA-Union de Transports Aériens after merge in 1963. Converted to DC-8-53 in May 1965. Leased to TAE-Trabajos Aereos y Enlaces between March and November 1975, registered EC-EMT. Leased to Air Afrique in February 1979, registered TU-TCP. Stored and used as fire trainer at Zurich Airport in May 1985. Broken up in September 2014.
