The Nord NC.850 family trace on from the SNCAC NC.850 (first flight in April 1947). The company liquidated in 1949 and merged into Nord Aviation, the 850 was modified with several version of the initial design, the most important gaining twin tails and the name 853S for the first massive batch (95 airframes). A dedicated military reconnaissance variant with extensive glazing was the NC.856A Norvigie and was the most produced (112 aircraft). A dozen others variant (a single floatplane or nine glider tug, for example) tried to lift up the production without success.
