The single Douglas DC-4E built (NX18100, s/n 1601) was an attempt for a commercial pressurized airliner which first flew on 7 june 1938. At the time named DC-4, it was later renamed DC-4E to distinguish it from its successor, the widely used and cheapper DC-4 of the 40's. Sold to Japan, it was used as basis for the design of the Nakajima G5N.
