Alcoholic Major Remes becomes frustrated at the barracks and requests leave of absence. His request is granted on the condition that Remes conducts one more military exercise. During the exercises, Remes encounters the crook Oiva Juntunen, who is hiding gold bars in the forest. The crook gets the major to help him pan for gold in Lemmenjoki, and the major agrees to almost anything when he sees his chance for freedom approaching. From this chance encounter, a bond develops, each convinced that they will achieve their goals by deceiving the other.
Fokker F.27 Mk 100
Fokker F.27 Mk 100 of the Ilmavoimat (Finnish Air Force). Most probably FF-2 (c/n 10300) built in 1966 and first used by Icelandair as TF-FIK between June 1966 and October 1979 (with red fin applied in 1977). Loaned to Ilmavoimat from July 1980 and bought by the Air Force in 1982. WFU (Withdrawn From Use) on March 2004 and then used for ground instruction in Finland Air Force livery at the Pori College of Technics.
