Talk:Odessa in fiamme
Odessa în flăcări
This Italian-Romanian co-production was made at the Cinecittà Studios in Rome. Most of the main casting was Italian actor and actress even if the leading role was held by Maria Cebotari (a celebrated Bessarabian-born Romanian soprano and actress). Location shooting took place in Axis-occupied Odessa and Moldova as well as Romania.
Because of the invasion of Bucharest by Soviet troops in 1944 the movie was banned and the actors were arrested (*). Many such movies were either destroyed or censored. Nothing was heard of this movie for more than 50 years. However, it was rediscovered in the Cinecittà archives in Rome and was shown for the first time in Romania in December 2006.
(*) due to her career, Maria Cebotari was at Berlin at the end of the war. She was able to sing again on world-around stage until 1949 when she died of cancer at 39.
