Naryan-Mar is a Russian a sea and river port town (population : around 20 000) situated on the Pechora River, 110 kilometers (68 mi) upstream from the river's mouth, on the Barents Sea. Founded in 1930 and served by the Naryan-Mar Airport, a mixed civilian-military field (it is the only major facility airfield on the Barents Sea coast between Arkhangelsk and Novaya Zemlya). This airport's operator is the Naryan-Mar United Aviation Squadron (Naryan-Mar UAS or Naryan-Mar OAO [Russian transliterated]) which manages too the small aircraft fleet of Antonov An-2 and Mil Mi-8.
