The CANT Z.506 was a twin engine transport floatplane for 12 or 14 passengers (15 airframes). A variant with three engine was designed to fullfill the bomber role was named Z.506B. Its low speed quickly turned it to perform as reconnaissance aircraft and air-sea rescue plane. As many others italian aircraft used by Regia Aeronautica, after september 1943, surviving Z.506S were sized by Luftwaffe and the both Italians armies. At VE Day, a handfull of these very efficient floatplane even in very rough seas were kept in service for sea rescue service until the end of the 50's.

Nearly 350 CANT Z.506 were built.
