Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket seen in Jet Wings for Tomorrow.

The Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket was an experimental high-speed research aircraft ordered by the U.S. Navy. Developed from the Douglas D-558-1 Skystreak, this new aircraft accommodated both rocket and jet power with the goal to reach Mach 2. This was done on 20 November 1953, a world premiere. With more three hundred flights, the Skyrocket is one successful project allowing great deal of data about several effects of transsonic flights and maximum speed. Surprisingly, the type was never a movie star as did some bad lucky opponents like the Bell X-2 or the Douglas X-3 Stiletto.

Three Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket has been built and are all preserved in museums.

This page lists all films that feature the Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket.
