Note "N.A.S. ANACOSIA U.S. NAVY" on the fuselage. How strange for a record flight as there is around 185 miles between the two Naval Air Stations
In fact, it's a N.A.F. TS-1 from VF-1 (serial 1-F-23 seen flipped) which lift off the wheels.
