North American XF-86 Sabre
FU-597 s/n 45-59597 c/n 140-38424. Ordered as XP-86 and built as XF-86, this is the first prototype of the Sabre built by North American. Maiden flight on first October 1947. Plane eventually used in nuclear tests at Frenchman's Flat, Nevada (8 and 15 May 1952). Plane sold for scrap from Nevada nuclear test site on January 1965.
Must not be confused with FU-597 seen in Jet Attack !
