Douglas DC-6B of fictitious Linea Aerea Siciliana. First seen with code 26 then, after half an hour, with 261. The Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force) used some DC-6s from 1962 till 1981.
This one is most probably the Douglas DC-6B c/n 43216 /165 already seen as I-LADY until 1957 (Frequently Seen Aircraft (Civil Fixed-Wing)). Then registered as I-DIMS until 1965 when it was bought by the Aeronautica Militare as serial MM61922 (code SM-26 and later 31-26). Last flight on 6 July 1981.
All along the movie, the two heroes are alone to man the aircraft : no cabin crew and moreover, no flight engineer nor navigator.
