Created in the 1960s as the helicopter came into maturity as a transportation method, this fascinating Sikorsky film promotes the use of 'copters to supplement the transportation system and use the broad highway in the sky to reduce traffic congestion on the highways and eliminate gaps in efficiency.

Leased to Cyprus Airways from August to September 1978. Written off at Rafic Hariri International, Beirut Lebanon (OLBA/BEY) in June 1982.

Note the Douglas DC-8 probably from United Airlines in the background left and to the right, the hangar of Butler Aviation, a company of services in aeronautics (Maintenance, airport services, etc..) launched in 1946 at Chicago.


No trace found of this DC-8 JET...RADAR... marking.

First flight on October 10th 1956 as Sikorsky Aircraft (Bridgeport). Delivered to SABENA-Societé Anonyme Belge d'Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne in November 1956, registered OO-SHI. Sold to Force aérienne belge - Belgische Luchtmacht in May 1963, registered B-11, transferred to Heli Flight, Koksijde registered OT-ZKK, then Escadron d'Hélicoptère in April 1971. Sold to Meravo Luftreederei Fluggesellschaft in August 1979, registered D-HAUF. Donated to Auto und Technik Museum-Sinsheim, Sinsheim, Baden-Wurttemberg in April 1982.

Delivered new to SABENA in 1956. Written off in a crash on July 4th 1958 during a flight between Koln to Brussels, at Glabbeek, Belgium, caused by an engine failure. No fatalities.

Sikorsky S-61L
Arrival at Bridgeport Municipal Airport (BDR) in Connecticut. (Igor I. Sikorsky Memorial Airport (BDR/KBDR) nowadays). See discussion tab (16).
Probably a promotional footage due to the presence of Sikorsky Aircraft factory in Stratford, Connecticut, close to the airport, otherwise commercial operation of an aircraft from Los Angeles Airways would be non-sense.
Registration N302Y Sikorsky S-61L of Los Angeles Airways, c/n 61-033.
Delivered new to Los Angeles Airways in 1961, registered N302Y. Sold to unknown owner as N269BC, then to Canada as C-GJIU, back to USA as N4721S, returned to Canada as C-FZLS. Sold to Northern Mountain Helicopters in May 1997, registered C-FHHR. Sold to Hayes Forest Services in March 2001. Sold to Air Palace Hotel, South Korea in 2008, registered HL9478.






Sikorsky S-61L (interior)
N302Y again. This new generation of helicopters like the S-61 provide smoother, quieter, faster and more reliable services. Cabin outfits is like those of big jets liners.

Leased to Continental Airlines in February 1959. Sold to FB Ayer & Associates in October 1959. Sold to National Flying Farmers Association in October 1960, registered N240FA. Sold to H.J. Heinz Company in August 1960, registered N357H. Re-registered N367H in June 1970. Sold to Continental Aviation Company then to Concare Aircraft Leasing in July 1970. Sold to Executive Leasing Service in April 1971, re-registered N300BP in November 1971. Company renamed Executive Air Leasing Services in November 1972. Sold to Central Iowa Airlines Inc in April 1973, re-registered N300GR in August 1973. Sold to Charles Clay in April 1980. Crashed and caught fire at Daytona Beech, FL on May 24th 1980.
