Bomberguy Aviation History

Short documentary on the Armstrong Whitworth A.W.52, a British flying wing designed in 1944 and first flew as towed glider on March 2nd 1945. One glider, and two jet powered prototypes were built. The first jet version was fitted with two Rolls-Royce Nene engines and achieved a top speed of 500 mph. The first prototype experienced asymmetric flutter causing the pilot to make the first ejection in UK on May 30 1949. Continued flight tests on the second aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce Derwent, were disappointing and the project was scrapped in 1953.
