Welcome to IMPDb!
Dedicated to identifying aircraft throughout Movies, Television, and Video Games!

Dear Friends:

As many of you have noticed, The Internet Movie Plan Database ( has recently had a hard time keeping up with the growing demands of our users. In 2009 when a couple of us got together to begin putting the website together, space was never an issue. In fact, it has steadily grown with virtually no problems throughout the years.

In about the middle of 2016 we began to run into server space issues. We have since made upgrades (moving to a VPS, buying more space, etc), but the site continues to outgrow the upgrades. The meager ad revenue generated by the site isn't sufficient to cover the annual cost of running the server. We who manage the site have never made money from it, it has only ever earned enough money to cover actual server costs.

In an effort to continue serving the needs of aviation enthusiasts around the world, we are asking for donations to keep this site up and running consistently like it did when it was a smaller, newer site. If you've enjoyed this website and would like to see it continue being the site you go to for your aviation screenshot needs, please consider donating.

Oh yeah, new users and edits are now active (hopefully for good) while we're testing new and improved spam/bot protections :)
Thank you,
IMPDb Staff

Re: Top Gun

Actually, they use both the two-seat F-5F and the single-seat F-5E in that film. I think you can also see another F-5E in US Navy Aggressor colors during the briefing in the hangar where Goose flips Kelly McGillis' character the bird. I have a scale model of and F-5E made to look like a MiG-28 from that film. I used to watch it constantly as a kid. Orca1 9904 22:37, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

That code you are trying might just take some time is all... Tleeg 11:27, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes I have series one. I wasn't on here at the time but I usually made captures for any aircraft even then. I don't seem to have anything saved so I'm not sure if there was anything. If you watch it and find anything then feel free to add it to the page. I'm on to Series Six now. Sandie 14:11, 4 August 2010 (BST)

Nice job on the spammers Tim! Thank you. Tleeg 07:53, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Re: Jarhead

Thanks Mate ;-)

Issues arising

When you get a second, i just wanted to point out a couple things we could use you opinions/comments on.

Aircraft list.

Hey ;)

Love this site. Will soon learn commands and ways. Until now You guys have to update identified unidentifies ;) I wrote comments in discussion pages(as You know)) of movies with unidentified A/C´s. Some of them are very tough.. Especially 1WW. But we will crack them ;;)) Just a matter of time

Re: Next Steps

I guess we should. I don't want anyone to get upset, but we do need guidelines/rules. Thanks for your help with this. - Tobin Lee 17:47, 30 January 2011 (MST)

sixcyl wiki problems. Help!

Some times I'm really fed up with this wiki language and system!. In the "recent change" section, there are many times some comments on which I'd like to reply, but I never find in which page they are posted!!! ...for instance this last one: (diff | hist) . . m Ninotchka‎; 13:29 . . (+1) . . Bthebest (Talk | contribs) (PLEASE PUT ALL CATEGORY LINKS AT THE END) Can you help? Sixcyl 09:05, 13 February 2011 (MST)

Air America

A page already exists with simply "Air America". I like the idea you were running with there, but what is your suggestion with our newest thoughts? - Tobin Lee 12:03, 13 February 2011 (MST)

Users editing

Was there a problem with Professorav8r editing pages? Think there's still a problem? - Tobin Lee 09:19, 26 February 2011 (MST)

Okay. I will refresh my memory on that subject and let you know the details. - Tobin Lee 09:34, 27 February 2011 (MST)

Re: Front Page

I am not positive what it did, unless it put some more space in between. But I trust you and especially appreciate you making me aware of the change. - Tobin Lee 09:26, 16 June 2011 (MDT)

Spooks Series Ten

You going to work on that? If not I made some captures of aircraft whilst going through it for IMCDb. Sandie 18:45, 27 October 2011 (MDT)

Go for it Sandie, as you probably noticed haven't been doing much recently, too busy! Great series though, shame it had to end. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 09:46, 28 October 2011 (MDT)

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

I noticed you have made a lot of pages on the movies. I recently made a page for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. It would be nice if you could help finish that page.

Aircraft category list

Do you know why Category:ATR 42 appears under Category:ATR 72? not logical.Sixcyl 15:56, 29 December 2012 (MST)

Fixed. It was because I had changed to sorting order to be independent of case, but it had altered it somewhere else. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 17:46, 29 December 2012 (MST)

Fine! thanks.Sixcyl 14:36, 30 December 2012 (MST)

TV Series

Thanks for the feedback Tim! Sixcyl 13:17, 31 January 2013 (MST)

Video Game

i changed name of few aircarfts in video games. I found most closer match. If you have time you can check them.

Space Aircrafts

Are we listing aircrafts like Hugo Drax space station from Moonraker or International Space Station? And for GTA: San Andres, game is set in 1992 so i think AH-64 was McDonnell Douglas not Boeing.

Fictional Aircrafts

Are we list Movies/Video Games where are all aircrafts are fictional? Like Alien movies?

I've added a few more pictures to this article. However the sofware I am using for the screenshots (VLC media player) is making the images look 'muddy'.

I was wondering if you knew of better capture software. I hope to have pictures of the model jet fighter they used in the film up in a few days.Graham1973 20:15, 23 March 2013 (MDT)

Thanks for IDing the 747-200. I've added a couple of pictures of the model F-14 used in the film. I think that's a wrap.Graham1973 05:21, 25 March 2013 (MDT)

Another Question

Sorry for so many questions but i gotta ask Are we listed things like Soyuz-2 or Intercontinental Ballistic Missile or V2 Rockets? Mark0 30 March 2013

Picture Resizing

Since last August, the automatic resizing of the picture is broken. It's very time consuming to resize pix one by one to post them with sometimes most details lost during the process. Visitors are too frustrated by such thumb. Moreover, when an airplane is on a movie, a new categorie then seen again in another movie, we need to work three times on the same picture, uploaded it on three sizes ... We can't run like this for the eternity !
A multi-uploader too will be highly appreciated for big subjects. LVCDC 10:37, 31 January 2014 (MST)

A Few Questions

Hey, Bthebest. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me.

1. Are we allowed to add movies or video games that contain only fictional aircraft? I know there's already a Star Wars movie here, but I just wanted to make sure since I haven't noticed any others.

2. Are we allowed to create categories for fictional aircraft if they appear in more than one movie or video game?

3. Can commercials be added? I noticed a few recently that I thought might be good here, but I'm not sure if they're allowed or how to title them.

Thanks in advance! Corkeyandpals 22:50, 16 February 2014 (MST)

Hey Bthebest, do plan on updating the pictures on the home page at some point? If not with new pictures then at least fixing the aircraft links? The Cessna A185F link in For Your Eyes Only is broken, and the Eurocopter EC665 Tiger in GoldenEye, Sikorsky S-42A in Now, Voyager, and De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito in 633 Squadron all now have categories. Corkeyandpals 13:09, 9 May 2014 (MDT)

Hey, can you block this ColinQuintanill guy? He's been adding spam pages to the site. Corkeyandpals 09:44, 29 July 2014 (MDT)

To Update Fieseler Category

Please, can you add Fieseler manufacturer category to the Fi 156 Storch page ?
Regards. LVCDC 13:16, 18 August 2014 (MDT)

Website Facing Again Difficulties ?

Thanks about the Fieseler 156 upgrade.
Since yesterday, "This wiki has a problem / (Cannot contact the database server: Unknown error (localhost))" with at an increasing rate and since this afternoon it occurs on nearly each picture I upload. Former cases like this led to a blackout of IPMDB at short term ... Anything to prevent such fate ? LVCDC 13:15, 20 August 2014 (MDT)

I have referred this to our other admins who handle all the behind the scenes stuff. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 11:20, 21 August 2014 (MDT)
I don't know if something has been done, but it now works fine. Thanks anyway. LVCDC 08:33, 25 August 2014 (MDT)
BTW, about the size of the database (number of images and their size), what about the unused ones ? When I'm able to shot a better picture and upgrade an existing page, the link to the first one is broken ... but the picture is still there ("unused files"). They are now 1,258 with a great number of my own, which could be erased as they were replaced by better ones or by JPG resized to 500px (to avoid the grey square when automatic resizing failed). If you wish, I could give on the discussion tab of each of them a deletion template to confirm (I think, in fact, it's really useful as some are used only on the forum). So, what do you think about this ? LVCDC 08:01, 26 August 2014 (MDT)
I can delete all the pictures from the 'Unused Files' list. What would be useful is if you could identify images that are used on the forum that you don't want deleted. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 10:05, 26 August 2014 (MDT)
I started to select among my uploaded files now unused those which have really NO more interest. I hope you could access to a list selected from the template DELETION (by the way, a high number of spam accounts and 'title' page are still not yet erased). I've just sorted the 400 (or 500 ?) first ones. Tomorrow is another day. LVCDC 11:26, 27 August 2014 (MDT)

Airline/Military Categories

Hey Bthebest, Sixcyl and I were recently talking on the forums about the possibility of creating categories for airlines and military branches operating aircraft, in addition to just aircraft categories, and I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the matter. Would you be okay with us creating those? Corkeyandpals 21:00, 15 November 2014 (MST)

Hello ! As I've lost my password for the forum, just a note about Air Forces Categories. If a plane of the French Air Force acted as a Norwegian AF one, in which one would it be categorised ?
I mean to Si tous les gars du monde... and I guess the answer as Norway never used the Dassault Flamand. But what about the case of a french Mirage acting as a Belgian one ? We must be very careful and have right data as just seeing roundels could let us to think something wrong.
And what about defunct air forces (I mean to the GDR for example) ?
I'm afraid Airlines would be more complicated (look at, the picture search engine has a terrific list of airlines !). It takes already so much time to find the right aircraft category, to check if the same plane acted in another movie... isn't it ?
BTW, the frequent locations (which started like a game) is now fully checked by Sixcyl (thanks guy !) but already another new additional task to take care. And I'm afraid this makes the FSA page a little bit too heavy. Can we have a specific page and kept FSA for the planes themselves ?
Regards. LVCDC 18:06, 16 November 2014 (MST)

For Air force Category, I would suggest that in the rare cases considered, the airplanes should be categorized in the genuine Air Force (Armée de l'Air in the example), with the proper comment in the film page. For Airlines Category, I would suggest the same rule between "made for movie companies" (such as Transcon Airways in Mayday at 40,000 Feet! and genuine airline company on which the fake airline is based on (World Airways in this case). But we could assume as well to make a specific sub-category "Made for Movie Airlines" doubling this first categorization (the airplane would be in both category). About Locations list: I agree with LVCDC. It's an interesting option which aim to grow, and in my opinion too, it would be necessary to create a FSL "Frequently Seen Locations" beside the present FSA. Sixcyl 00:58, 18 November 2014 (MST)

Some Wishes

Hi BtheBest ! Best wishes to the Happy New Year.
I just underline that two Junkers categories are uncorrect : Junkers Ju-86 and Junkers Ju-52. But it's impossible to correct them as they are protected. Like Junkers Ju-87, they must be change to suppress the dash. I'm ready to change all the links on the several pages of these three aircraft ... if you accept to hold the protection some times. Are you agree ? LVCDC 11:53, 11 January 2015 (MST)

Happy New Year. The extended protection was a legacy issue when we first started protecting pages. I have updated it to the correct level so you can update it now. Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 13:19, 11 January 2015 (MST)
Thanks a lot. Work done for the Category:Junkers Ju-86 replaced by the good Junkers Ju 86. For the last ones (Ju-52 and Ju-87 with respectively 51 and 77 linked pages -some of them among the biggest ones-), it will take several days. LVCDC 15:32, 11 January 2015 (MST)

Can I re-use/modify the page X-15 (now just a redirect page towards the NA X-15 category) for the movie of the same title ? LVCDC 15:50, 5 February 2015 (MST)

Yes, just put a bit at the top saying X-15 may also refer to.... Bthebest - IMPDb Administrator 10:28, 6 February 2015 (MST)

A Few Things

Hey Bthebest, I was wondering if I could get you to help me out with a couple of things. Firstly, could you unlock the manufacturer pages? I have company logos I'd to add to some of them. Secondly, I think Sixcyl asked you about this before, but could you add the Airlines category to the sidebar, maybe under the Aircraft List? It'd make navigating to those pages much easier. Thanks in advance. Corkeyandpals 16:52, 7 June 2015 (MDT)

Thanks, here are the manufacturers I'm looking for:

Unlocking a Page

Hi ! I hope you're in good wealth but you're probably very busy elsewhere as I didn't notice some activity from you since a long time. If you read these lines, please unlock the Grumman F6F category page ; we need to add a default sort criteria as like as F4F or F7F. Now the F6F is 'lost' among jets !
