Air France, dismantled during the Occupation, would embark on its rebirth and strive to rebuild its network, its fleet, and its pre-war prestige. French cinema, though outdated, also carried a strong cultural ambition and would be reborn, embodying modernity. Both would contribute to a positive brand image for the company and participate in the cultural and democratic renewal of the country.

La môme vert de gris (1953)

Fouga CM-8R13

Glider with a dorsal jet engine and V-tail. Several variant of jet engine tested with minor changes of the dorsal pylon or the front landing gear. Due to the small size on the screen, hard to say exactly which variant but most probably the first one named Cyclone F-WFOI.
After a US promotional tour in January 1950, and following a claim from the engine manufacturer Wright, Fouga changed the name to Sylphe (Spirit of the Air; sylphs are (invisible) beings of the air). In a short time, Sylphe I was followed by Sylphe II and Sylphe III then Cyclope (I and later II; manufacturer type : CM-8R-9) and eventually the Midget (type : CM-8R-8 3).
All of them were single-seat airframes but five twin variants (named Gémeaux) were too built : two unpowered fuselages were join by a new central wing panel possessing a single turbojet engine. At the same time, the design office was developing what would become the Fouga CM170R Magister (first flight July 1952), which was ultimately adopted by the Armée de l'Air (French Air Force) and several foreign customers.
